"How To... Nail An Acting Audition!"

Our first Masterclass will be on Saturday 27th January and will explore “How To... Nail an Acting Audition” with Theatre Director turned Agent, Adam Lacey.

Adam is a Senior Agent with Avenue Agents following his vast and varied career as a Director. He was the Artistic Director and Venue Manager at the Old Joint Stock Theatre in Birmingham from 2015-2022 and has been directing theatre on a freelance basis since 2011. Adam will share his experience of the casting process and offer his advice and knowledge throughout the session. This masterclass is suitable for students embarking on their first auditions and professionals looking to refine their audition technique. Come and learn more about approaching a monologue and meet like-minded creatives in a nurturing environment.

 Adam’s theatre credits include:

As Director - The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play & It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play (2022); A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play (2021); Little Shop of Horrors (2021); Avenue Q (2021); Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Radio Play (2019); Blood Brothers: The Play (2019); The Full Monty: The Musical (2018); Thrill Me (2018); One Man, Two Guvnors (2017); The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (abridged) (2017); Closer (2017); The 39 Steps (2016); tick, tick…BOOM! (2016); The Life of Riley (2013); Table Manners (2011)

As Assistant Director/Producer - It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play (2018); City Love (2018); The Last Five Years (2018); 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche (2017); The Testament of Mary (2017); Ordinary Days (2017)

What will the Masterclass include?

Adam will lead a warm-up and group exercise before working through monologues and offering re-direction and feedback. The session will include a break for refreshments (provided by Heartbreak) and will end with a Q&A. We’ll do our best to see everyone’s monologue, but depending upon numbers this may not be possible. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements or allergies.

What shall I prepare?

All participants are asked to prepare a 2-minute monologue, ideally a piece that reflects your casting type. Adam will spend time workshopping and exploring as many monologues as he can. There may be a sight-reading activity if time allows. We’d recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing that you can move in around in.
