Oppression and freedom  - Duke Frederick's Court portraying banishment. revenge and oppression whilst the Forest of Arden represents freedom, understanding and love.  The view of Peter Mimmack, Director and the basis for his approach to As You Like It.

There are also some extraordinarily surreal moments in the play (what with tigers, snakes and goddesses of wedding feasts!) and a strong suggestion that everyone who enters Arden is somehow altered and falls in love, the 60's ethos of experimentation with drugs, love and freedom all seemed to fit into place. 

And so this production combines the beauty of Shakespeare's words with a nostalgic trip back to the 60's to create: "... a wonderfuly innovative take... works to great effect and engages throughout... It's simple, but most effective and fluently staged..." Sheffield Telegraph
